On March 15th of 2011, Sigma Designs celebrated their annual Investor’s Day and also the anniversary of their listing on the NASDAQ stock exchange. We were commissioned to create a 30 second animation loop that played on the Times Square NASDAQ Tower throughout the day. Sigma wanted a fast, fluid animation that showcased how their technology helps consumer media devices connect, enhance, and provide control. We created a rotating 3D house with glowing blue light streaks representing how Sigma’s technology connected all the media platforms in the house.
In addition to finishing this on a tight deadline, we had to design around the unique form factor of the NASDAQ Tower, the largest standing video screen in the world. The curved screen stands seven stories high and has several windows on the face of it, creating interesting design challenges. Text, logos, and design elements could only be placed in certain areas because of readability issues. Fortunately NASDAQ supplied us with a neat After Effects template that allowed us to roughly test how our animation would look.
